- Deadline – October 15th 200
The Website has had 10,483 hits since it started
On the 10th of October, 100 participants who were randomly selected from the online surveys were invited from all the states in Nigeria to a pilot programme at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja at the Mind the gap Conference organized by Alder Consulting Life skills, job and entrepreneurship training skills
- The empirical data captured from online and paper based surveys ED.TAP has identified certain gaps in our educational system which has led the Ministry of Education to
- Design and implement high-impact strategies for providing hope, technical, life and leadership skills for our students as well as those that have graduated
- Match them to organisations for recruitment that will enable the “products” to lead full and meaningful lives
The survey clearly showed a disturbing trend that over 60% of participants were unemployed or under employed. On further consultations with employers of labour the reasons for this trend were confirmed as follows;
- A mismatch between teaching in our institutions and the needs of the labour market
- Lack of consultation with private sector has lead to teaching of outdated Curriculum, resources and teaching methods
- Majority of Students learn through lectures and academic text books and are academically sound but they have limited opportunities of acquiring practical experience by using machinery, equipment and practical techniques associated with the profession
- Low demand from private sector for poorly trained Graduates from Nigerian Universities has lead to increase in unemployment
- Demand for skilled workers from private sector is very high in growth sectors but there is a serious shortage of skilled workers and technicians in oil, Industrial and services sectors
- Lack of Qualified teachers to teach vocational, innovative, entrepreneurship and job skills
- Reduce the High Unemployment and Under employment rate through Career Centres, curriculum realignment, job skills and entrepreneurship training.
- Skills Gap: The survey has identified that there is definitely a skills gap which has resulted in low demand for our graduates hence the high unemployment levels. It is common knowledge that that increase in skills produces an increase in GDP per head, thereby achieving the ultimate economic growth.
- Urgent need to increase skills, practical ,vocational and creativity training in all our higher institutions
- Government Technology and Vocational institutions to be revamped to ensure they meet 21st Century Challenges
- Graduate Fair to be organised in partnership with People Temp , Leaf Africa and SIFE in July with 40 companies and organizations invited.
